The telecommunications sector still represents 17,265 direct jobs in Portugal and is responsible for 2.3% of the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP), reveals Apritel

Telecommunications operators jointly invest an average of 1 billion euros per year. The figure is presented by the Association of Electronic Communications Operators (Apritel) in a statement in which it portrays the sector of electronic communications in Portugal. The value is based on the “reports and accounts of the operators” and between 2014 and 2018 it represented an accumulated investment of 5.3 billion euros.

The level of investment represents, on average, 22% of the total revenues that telecommunications operators have had, above the average of 18% recorded at European level according to the STOXX Europe 600 Telecommunications index. Also according to Apritel, the electronic communications sector represents 2.3% of Portugal's GDP and is responsible for 17,265 direct Telecom jobs .

The association's data also underlines the fact that the joint revenues of the telecommunications operators fell 20% between 2012 and 2018 - from 4.46 billion euros to 3.6 billion -, which is due to the drop in average revenue per service - went from 16 euros in 2019 to 12 euros in 2020.
